  • 1 frozen banana

  • 1/2 cup/200ml of brown rice milk (I like brown rice milk as it’s naturally really sweet, but you can also use any other kind of plant based milk)

  • 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter

  • 1 large handful of spinach (50g)

  • 1 tablespoon of shelled hemp seeds, or hemp powder

Start by peeling and slicing the banana and then freezing for about two hours or overnight.

Once the banana has frozen, place the banana and the rest of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!

Note: I peel and chop all my ripe bananas and just leave them in the freezer to use for smoothies. It makes the smoothie creamier and stops any banana wastage!

If you’re looking for a sweet, creamy smoothie to have for breakfast or post workout then this is exactly what you need! The mix of frozen banana, peanut butter and brown rice milk give it a wonderful sweetness and milkshake like consistency, while the hemp seeds boost your protein intake and the spinach gives you a great portion of leafy greens. So you should feel nourished and satisfied after every sip of this beautiful drink!

Sadly a hand blender won’t be strong enough. Something like a Nutribullet or Vitamix would be perfect! Here are all my favourite recommendations! http://deliciouslyella.com/kitchen-equipment-choosing-a-blender/

I never cut out peanuts/peanut butter completely, I just limit them as I eat a lot more of cashew and almond butter. You can find shelled hemp seeds (hemp hearts) in most health food stores or online from Amazon. Hope you love the smoothie! X

Hi Shifra, it’s really difficult for me to advise on this specifically as everyone reacts to foods in different ways and have different requirements. If it’s something you’re concerned about, I would recommend consulting this with a naturopath or nutritionist. I eat peanut butter but I don’t tend to have it too often as I much prefer cashew and almond butter! X

  • Sandra

Hi Ella, Do you make your own peanut butter?

    • ellawoodward

I usually just buy mine, try to make sure it is 100% peanuts with nothing added x
